Yesterday was our first event at World Championships here in Val di Fiemme, Italy. It was quite the scene at the venue among the athletes. Since it was the first event you could easily see the nerves and anxiety associated with the first big competition. However once the competition got underway all was forgotten as each athlete went out there to give it their all.
After all World Championships is very much a mental battle. The competition consists of the same competitors as every other world cup, the same process and events, however this one carries weight, it has a title go along with it. More then anything else this is what tears an athlete down or builds an athlete up to take a win. A big congrats to Jason Lamy Chappuis who took the win yesterday in a very impressive sprint finish with Mario Stecher, Bjorn Kircheisen, and Eric Frenzel. While all these guys were expected to be in the hunt there were also some surprise impressive results for a few as well.
Personally I was 14th. While this was a personal best finish for me I am certain I can be up there with the best. Unfortunately my jump was just a few meters short of were I needed it to be in order to be in the fight for the top 6. However my XC form is strong. I am skiing well enough to put down a solid performance and I am excited for our next events.
So what is next? Our next event is the team event 4x5 relay. Our team is pumped, fired up to go out there and get ourselves in the fight. We will step out the door in the morning with a winning attitude. With a little luck on our side hopefully that dream will come to fruition. Make sure to tune in and watch on TV, because team USA has a little humorous surprise for the world!
Lastly I want to throw out some Thank You's to everyone who has helped me and our team on this journey. You know who you are and whether it was the smallest or the largest gesture, my gratitude is the same. I cannot do this without the support from the village, that includes my friends, family, and the companies who have supported me and our team. I encourage you as friends and family and to click on the links we send out, and take notice of the shout outs we give. The products these people/companies are great and we use them daily, so give them a shot!
Thanks and GO USA!
