Wondering what I have been up to lately? Well wonder no more! The last two weeks have been jam packed with activities. After our return from Europe I had two days of easy training before I kicked off a week long intensity camp. In the middle of the camp I flew to Boston, Mass. for the annual USSA Ski Ball (more on that later,) after returning home I picked up right where I left off in the intensity camp. A full day of intervals with a tough time trial the next day. Needless to say this week is a favorite! Why? Well of course because it's a recovery week, which means down time and easy training!
So while I am enjoying my evening on the couch I will fill you in on my 48 hours in Boston. I flew in semi-late on Tuesday evening and managed to catch a quick dinner at an oyster-bar near the hotel. I figured since I had never been to a real oyster-bar I better get belly up, and give it a shot. After pounding down a ta bowl of clam chowder and 4 different types of oysters I was ready to get horizontal. The next day I went for a run along the river after completing the 6 mile loop I decided I wanted to try to hit another 3 mile loop on the other side. That 3 mile loop turned into another 6+ miles after I made a wrong turn and probably several more after that. Long story short my 8 mile run turned into double that. However after it was all done I chalked it up as a great way to see the city! Since that was all before breakfast I decided that would be the next step. I hit up the bagel shop across the street and hailed a cab after. I ended up at the Samuel Adams Brewery, where I took my first brewery tour! After learning all I could about the brewing process I learned what to look for while sampling beer too. After three small tasters I was back on my way to the hotel to suit up for the ball.
If your curious about what happens at a USSA Ball all I can say it get a ticket and go! They are a great way to meet a variety of athletes as well as acquire some hard to come by US Ski Team apparel! Plus they include some great entertainment and of course plenty of refreshments for the guests. So I encourage you too look one up in your area and attend!
So whats next? I will be laying low this week and recovering just as hard as I have been training. Next week were off to Euro land again. Obviously tune in for that soon!
