Training kicked off on monday with some XC testing. After testing we got back to doing weights. Man oh man did that cause some pain. I have not done weights in about 6 weeks so to jump back in was brutal.
We also had some solid jump sessions this week in XC suits. Jumping in the XC suit raised some mixed feelings for me. At first I was struggling with the process. However on the second day my confidence came back and I started to make some valuable gains. Switching back to a jump suit was not easy. However it definitely made it clear how a jump suit should not be used as a crutch, it should be an aid in your jumping. I found it was really easy to take the suit for granted. Instead of using it for its benefits.
Next week will be another week of solid XC training while throwing in some light jumping. Labor Day weekend will be on our own I plan to spend some time on my bike! Then its back to europe for training camp Number two. Stay tuned for more updates!
This week has been a great rest week. All the guys including my self were beat after summer grand prix's. Coming home and having some fun with friends and enjoying the Tour of Utah bike race has been perfect. To see so many people out here is very cool. Not to mention its always fun to watch the pros.
This next week will kick off on monday with some testing then right back into heavy training. Its time to be looking ahead at the winter. After SGP's thats much easier to do, because we skied so well it definitely adds some confidence to the group. Each person is going into the season knowing that we can be contenders on world cup. However the battle is not over, now is when the hard training starts and its time to buckle down, and fine tune everything. So keep checking back I will have more to write this week!
Our team has just arrived in Oberweisenthal for the last weekend of competitions before we head back home. We had a solid training session on the hill today, tomorrow we will have a busy day! In the morning we will do Official training and a provisional. In the afternoon/late evening our competition will commence followed by a race shortly after. The race will be held in town, around the town center hopefully there will be a big crowd turn-out.
I am feeling fresh and ready to go. My goal is to repeat my performances of last weekend and leave with some confidence to head into the season with. Check back for updates on how our team does tomorrow!
We had yet another day of solid results in Oberstdorf. Two guys in the points again. I jumped to 30th and skied up to 23rd. Brett C was able to jump to 9th and hold his place. The race was a crazy one. Lots of position changes and some heavy wind and rain made the race a very hard one. Taylor F. Had a good day as well skiing from 52nd up to 31st with the 4th fastest. Making that two top 5 times in the same weekend. He almost made points but ran out of course, he will be looking for revenge in the next comps in Oberweisenthal.
Our team is now in Klingenthal, training on the hill here and resting up for a couple days before we head into our next two comps. Everyone is feeling good and ready to battle again. We are looking to better our results still. Until then we are just trying to jump as far as possible on Klingenthal's big hill. Today I was able to jump 136, however my goal is over 140m which is very possible on this hill with a good jump and the right conditions! Wish us luck!
Today kicked off Summer Grand Prix 2010. Our team started off with two guys in the points and potential to do much better. I had a solid day and put my self is a great position on the jump hill. I was able to ski up to 10th at one point in the race however pushed my self a little too hard and blew up. Oh well lesson learned and moving on toward tomorrow. My final result was 19th, which is a personal best! I am happy with the result, even knowing I have potential to do better! Tomorrow will be our second day of competition I am looking for a repeat performance both on the jump hill and on the cross country course. I will sleep well tonight and rest up for tomorrow!
For all of you who are curious how U.S Nationals turned out, heres the scoop. This year was a battle just like in years past however this year was very exciting due to the battle on the jump hill. Everyone jumped well putting the pressure on the cross country. We had 5 guys with very good chances at the podium going into the cross country. A tough fight was put up by everyone throughout the race. I went out hard hoping to catch veteran Todd Lodwick. Although I was not able to catch todd I gave it a solid effort the first two laps. Going into the third lap I was dead with a heart-rate of 211 I had nothing left. From then on I was out for for 4th place. Since I had gone out with bang I was left vulnerable on the last lap. So I was fight from then for fourth place with Eric Camerota. Eric started 40 seconds ahead of me making it very challenging once I caught him to be able to sprint him out. Eric was able to make a move on me on the last hill, I gave to the pain in my legs and brought it home for a fifth place. Not my best result however considering the task at hand it was not a bad result as well. This years nationals was a great comp. The jumping was some of the fairest comps in years, the weather was great the entire weekend.
