Jumping Farther, Skiing Faster
Every year I have the pleasure of coming home to Steamboat Springs, CO for our first training camp. This year has been no exception. We are here in Steamboat now and day one of the camp kicked off yesterday. This camps primary focus is jumping, however this week and next we are also large volume XC weeks so there is no slacking either. Yesterday I kicked off the camp with four good jumps to start the summer on. After a quick lunch I rolled out the door for a 3 hour rollerski. Today will be one of the busiest days as we have jumping, team meetings, and intervals in the afternoon.
We use camps like this to sit down and really hash out the next couple months of training. My coaches and I typically will sit down and go over my goals and what direction I want to head in my training, they give me their feedback and I can make the necessary changes heading into the next season. Camps like this can also be a nice break from the daily routine.
Typically a time trial is included in the conclusion of the camp for the coaches enjoyment and mine and the other athletes benefit. The course here is brutal and I can honestly say I am not looking forward to the pain fest. just yet. I am enjoying the great weather we have had the last two days and hoping that continues throughout the rest of the week. If you are around town come down to Howleson Hill and watch some jumping. I hope to see you out there!
