Jumping Farther, Skiing Faster
Well it’s been a short clip since my last post. Ironically it’s one week after the world cup season ended and my last post was one week before the world cup ended. So what’s changed since the last post? I guess I will start with…OSLO! As always the competitions in Oslo were spectacular, with large and in charge crowds it made the weekend fly by. The highlight for me was the 11th on the first day. In the 15km race I skied very well but failed to put two jumps together on the jump hill leaving me a little far back for the race. Nonetheless I had a ton of fun racing the 15 km event again, I would love to see this event back in regular circulation.
After the competition on Saturday our team packed up and took the 4 am bus to the airport and traveled back to the US of A! I was very excited to come back and spend some time at home. I spent the first couple days back in Park City, UT skiing and enjoying the sun. So far some time off has been much needed and I have certainly enjoyed spending time with family and friends! I know it has been only a week off but it already feels like I haven’t trained in a month. Luckily for me we have another week off before we get going on any training again and I plan on alpine skiing and road biking any chance I get.
This weekend I will be in Steamboat Springs, CO for the annual Haken Memorial Festival. This is an event that I and many other SSWSC athletes hold near and dear to their heart. I am very excited to be heading back to hang with the young guns and go toe to toe with them on all the obstacle courses and races. I am pretty sure my Madshus cross country skis are made superior to all other skis when it comes to bicycle bumps and relay races! One thing is for certain it will be all smiles all day long and I am very excited for it. Interested in joining the fun? Show up at the Steamboat Ski Touring center at 10 am. You have to dress in costume and the theme this year is Biking Viking. You might want to also get a pass to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs too, because I promise you will need it after having fun racing around all day long!
Long term this spring I am excited to get back on the bike. I will be riding for ColeSport again this year. They have been so supportive in our training efforts and have made a huge difference in our training. I cannot thank them enough for their support and generosity. Our cycling team is going to mean this year and we are looking forward to a few races and also seeing you out on the road wherever that maybe. If you do see me or anyone else for that matter don’t be afraid to flag us down and chat it up with us. Sometimes during those long rides it’s cool to hear your stories along the way!
Here’s to another season in the books and to the big Olympic season next year!
