Jumping Farther, Skiing Faster
Today was a big day, lots of jumping and a race and we were done before 230. There is so much day left it's kind of abnormal during a comp weekend, I am not used to it. This morning started out another gloomy day however by the time the jumping started it was sunny and the conditions were great for jumping. My provisional jump was an improvement from my official training jump landing me in 21st place. However the real event today was the team event. After two jumps on the hill we rolled right into the comp. I was happy with my comp jump. I was able to put in a 101.5 meter jump for our team. The tail wind was strong for the last round making it pretty tough. I am happy to have a good solid jump heading into tomorrows individual competition.
The race today was tough. It's been a while since I have done a 5 k race. For those of you who don't know its like running the 400 m race in track. The race is an all out sprint, but just long enough that you can blow up really hard at the end. I felt alright for the race. I was able to ski strong the whole race I do have some technical stuff to work on however. Little things like staying in my tuck a bit longer on some of the downhill or tuck skating areas. Improving that will improve my rest and help make my skiing more efficient. Tomorrows race on this course will be a challenge. There are some very technical down hills and some long steep climbs. My key to success is negative splits. I need to be starting slower and skiing faster throughout the race. Its a very easy course to head out too hard on and I have a feeling plenty of people will do just that tomorrow. I am going to try to capitalize on it. Another update will come after the race tomorrow!
