Jumping Farther, Skiing Faster
Well it’s long overdue but I promise it was not laziness that kept me from updating my blog during the holidays. In fact quite the opposite is true. Here is what I did during the holidays in both pictures and words!
To start, I spent the first day back in the USA on my Line Influence 115’s at Deer Valley Resort. It was a pretty decent powder day and I didn’t want to waste any of it. After several hour of “shredding the Gnar” I decided to trade in the fat boards for some skinny sticks and spent the afternoon touring the XC trails at White Pine Touring.
Later that week I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to watch a couple moose ponder the thought of ski jumping. The spent almost 20 minutes looking down the landing hill trying to decide their next option. Eventually Bull Winkle and Rocky decided to back away from the jump, and leave it to the youngsters.
Following a few days of training I took off for Berlin, Wisconsin to celebrate the holidays. One of my favorite events among dozens was the cookie decorating competition we had. As you can see from the photo below there was some high quality entries that made the judge’s job difficult. Don’t worry though yours truly was on the podium in second place with the high-quality melting snowman. You might also notice Mr. Hanky the Christmas poo there too. He was quite the Christmas hit! Yup although he did not make the podium I am proud of the Mr. Hanky entry.
After bulking up with my fair share of cookie dough I had to burn some calories. I was a sight to see skiing on the snowmobile trails of Green Lake County. But it was worth it because the skiing was endless and I definitely had my fair share of it while I was there. As you can see in the photo it’s endless but flat. However this is not the only skiing in the area. In fact there is quite a few XC centers that have skiing. However the snow was so fresh there was not much groomed during the holidays. I decided it was best to stick to the snowmobile trails.
Other then skiing I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my GF’s family in her hometown. They opened their home to me and made me feel like it was my own family and together we had a blast. The whole week was a nice break from the routine. Now I am back in Utah and taking advantage of the last few days before I take off for the next stretch of the season. The next trip will be a long one so stay tuned for a number of updates throughout the next 5 weeks!
Who is excited to get back to competition? This Guy!
